📗 English Version: Dominoes Game Introduction and Rules
1. Introduction
Dominoes is a classic tile-based tabletop game that originated in China and later became popular worldwide. Each domino tile has two ends, each marked with numbers ranging from 0 to 6 or higher depending on the set. Players match tiles end-to-end, aiming to be the first to play all their tiles or to have the fewest points when the game is blocked.
Below is the standard Blocking/Scoring Dominoes gameplay.
2. Equipment
-
One set of dominoes (Double-Six: 28 tiles; Double-Nine: 55 tiles)
-
2–4 players
-
A table surface
3. Setup
-
Shuffle all tiles face down.
-
Draw tiles (Double-Six set):
-
2 players: 7 tiles each
-
3–4 players: 5 tiles each
-
-
The remaining tiles form the boneyard.
-
Players keep their tiles hidden from others.
4. How to Play
1. Starting the Game
-
The player with the highest double (e.g., 6–6) starts.
-
If no one has a double, use the highest-value tile or reshuffle.
2. Playing Tiles
Players take turns placing a tile so that one of its ends matches a number on the open ends of the layout.
Example: If the chain ends in 5, valid tiles include:
-
5–3
-
5–6
-
5–5 (doubles are placed perpendicular)
3. If You Cannot Play
A player must draw tiles from the boneyard:
-
If a playable tile is drawn, it may be played immediately.
-
If the boneyard is empty or no playable tile is drawn, the player passes.
4. Ending the Round
The round ends when:
-
A player plays all their tiles, or
-
The game becomes blocked—no player can make a legal move.
5. Scoring
-
If a player goes out, they score the total of all opponents’ remaining pips.
-
If the game is blocked, the player with the lowest pip total wins the round and scores the differences.
-
Play continues for multiple rounds; first to reach a target score (e.g., 100 points) wins.
6. Strategy Tips
-
Play high-value tiles early to reduce penalty points.
-
Keep versatile tiles (like 3–3 or 4–3) for better flexibility.
-
Watch which numbers opponents avoid—this helps you block them.
